Viewpoint about Google and Yahoo…

At 3rd of November I asked some questions to Selga Goldmane Assistant Professor in VUC. It was a little bit strange interview if I can call it so. Nowadays it is hard to appoint the time with professors for some interview because they aren’t on the spot most of the time. To my way home I met her in the bus to Cēsis. So I asked her if I can take an interview with her and she said yes, luckily for me. First of all I started with question: “Do you use Google and Yahoo?” It’s because when I started to talk with my classmates, friends and acquaintances a lot of them asked to me what is Yahoo and what they can do there. I suppose it’s not because they has one way thinking. I think they are quite pleased with Google and its offered facilities. Going back to the conversation with Selga Goldmane. She affirmed that she uses both search engines. Talking about which of search engines is better and why she admit that it’s hard to evaluate because most of the time she uses Google. Selga Goldmane mentioned that she has accustomed to use Google and this search engine satisfies her with its offered service. That’s why she doesn’t look for other search engines. That’s the case with my friends and acquaintances also classmates. Keep talking I asked about other services that offers Google and Yahoo. Mrs. Goldmane said that she has email account in both portals. Speaking about pros and cons of email accounts Selga Goldmane remarked. Maybe it is because email at Yahoo she uses for professional aims and email at Google for private aims. But she noticed that in Yahoo there are some problems with spam filtration because even she points that email that contains spam must be put at special directory it somehow appears among other email. It’s important that Yahoo has its mailbox without any limitation which doesn’t offer Google. What else Goldmane pointed out that Yahoo didn’t offer possibility to send emails in Latvian language and it was annoying because it’s a little bit troublesome to write two letters “aa” instead of Latvian “ā”. But now they have fixed this problem and that is pleasant. So this was just small insight from apart about Google and Yahoo. But you can always evaluate these things by yourself. At this time that’s all.

Google search engine vs. Yahoo search engine what's better? Part II

So what I have noticed this time… Someone could say it’s so simply and you perceive it only now? Yes that’s right. At Google I must type in whole name, phrase or something else but at Yahoo it offers some words/aphorisms that start with concrete letter.

It goes on Yahoos’ favor in my opinion. What next. This idea I borrow from one home page who somehow advertise Power search tool program. When I type in at Google best search engine, than as a first result what it shows is http://www.dogpile.com/ , second was noodletools.com . When I did the same at Yahoo, they rated their homepage as number one, at second place was Google. What’s the point? They are very certain about themselves. Is it the right way how to show it? Maybe only for me it seems a little bit strange?

Till next time...

Some facts about Google and Yahoo…

There are some interesting data about Search Rankings. Guess where - in the US. Like - Among core search engines in September 2007, Google Sites remained the top search property with more than 5.3 billion core searches conducted, representing a 57 percent share of the search market. More What about Latvia? I took a look in some Latvian web pages but there are shown only data from researches that were performed in the US. Why we haven’t such a research here about our situation. How much our people uses Google or Yahoo perhaps both. Maybe it’s because we don’t want to know such things. I said that we have different priorities. For example, high inflation and how to deal with it.

If you are interested in history of two big competing search engines like Google and Yahoo – look here. There you can also find histories of some other search engines. As I said never is too late know something like history of search engines. Ok it isn’t literature that I want to read every time but anyway some pieces of that material is worth to read.

Google search engine vs. Yahoo search engine what's better? Part I

I said Google. Why!? because I'm used to it and I like it. So to make sure that my opinion is right I looked at them more closely. As I said I used to use search engine Google so when I must find some words not separately but as a phrase at Google I use quotation marks. For example I must find information about Adam Smith then I put these two words between quotation marks like that “Adam Smith” and everything goes swimmingly. Google finds all texts where mentioned Adam Smith. But at Yahoo it didn’t worked. There to get the same result I must apply Boolean operator “and”. Simple thing but it is a little bit cumbersome procedure. It’s not difficult to reorientate but if I must find something quickly than it may create some difficulties. To keep evaluate similarities and differences, pros and cons…What I like that the structure of these search engines is quite similar. Both of them have the same categories, like Image Search, Mail, Movie search etc. But as I look deeper, my opinion starts to change…More and more I enjoy Yahoo. Maybe it’s because it’s something different, something that I haven’t used earlier. So now I’m over the moon that I can do more than previously. As I know Google didn’t offer translation for example form German language to English but Yahoo does. Although Yahoo structure is more thought-out because there I can always find a link to the beginning of search page. Shortly at yahoo it’s easily to navigate. I’ll keep evaluate these search engines but for now it’s all what I can say.

Rome wasn't built in a day...

These phrases I found recent below one person's profile at
http://www.draugiem.lv/ or http://www.frype.com/ I don't remember person's name, I only remember what he study and it is jurisprudence. Sometimes some words/phrases what person use can tell a lot about this person. If I didn't know what that person do, I thought that he is purposeful, smart, and realistic. Nothing much nor few... Even if he just copied these phrases because he liked them anyway all what happens has some reason all what you do have some reason. I think that in the future he’ll become a great lawyer...Maybe not but I tend to think that way...

Dave Snowden says: "We can always know more than we can tell, and we can always tell more than we can write down"

This expression I wrote under my profile at Skype, why...? As soon as I read it I knew, it's something that I prefer, that somehow characterize me maybe others too that's why I share it with others...

Dzīves filozofija...My life philosophy...

EN

I’m living for today and set things what I must to do until tomorrow. Nevertheless I bear in my mind saying, that tomorrow is today...That’s the reason why I try to evaluate what is worth to do now…tomorrow…the day after tomorrow…
I try to look at things with clear head and not to give up emotions or onrush of feelings ...Am I succeed or not, that’s another question…..
Always try to keep in mind, that every single word has a power, like someone said – all what you hear, read, speak somehow affect yours and other behavior…
